New Year, New Goals

It’s the start of a brand new year, a time when many people make resolutions for the months ahead: lose weight, get fit, write that novel, go travelling etc., etc. But this year I’ve decided to forget about the traditional resolutions (mainly because all thoughts of a diet flew out of the window the moment my friend gifted me a bar of Dairy Milk the size of my face for Christmas). Instead I’ve decided to focus on trying to achieve just a few goals which will help with my writing and hopefully make life a little less stressful and a lot more interesting and fun:

  • See more theatre: Working in London I’m fortunate to be able to see a lot of theatre, and over the past six months I’ve also been lucky enough to review for Love London Love Culture, Mind the Blog, Jonathan Baz and London Theatre Reviews. Admittedly until recently a lot of the productions I tended to buy tickets for were in West End, but while reviewing I’ve discovered the joy of Off West End theatre and have seen some brilliant productions over the past six months. So my aim for the forthcoming year is to see more Off West End productions and also to review the shows I see “for fun” on this blog. I also live close to three quality theatres (the Regent and Wolsey Theatres in Ipswich and Mercury Theatre in Colchester) and aim to visit them more than I admittedly have done in recent times.
  • Read more books: My aim this year is to read 50 books and post reviews once I’ve finished each one. I’m a fast reader and spend a lot of time on delayed trains during my commute so this is doable. Feel free to send me any recommendations you may have!
  • Write more: This may sound quite vague, but over the forthcoming year I plan to write not only more blogs, but more of my novel. Last year I finally thought of a book idea and now I want to find time to get it all out of my head and onto paper (and at the very least use one of my shiny new notepads!)
  • See more comedy: Real life has been tough over the past few months, so I’m in even more of a need of a good laugh. I love comedy shows, particularly stand-up and improv, and towards the end of 2018 I was fortunate enough to see a lot of hilarious women perform their routines, so I’d like to continue this into 2019 and review shows where possible. Again, if you have any recommendations of shows or performers to watch, hit me up!

Hopefully as the year gets underway I’ll be able to report back on my progress and the (hopefully) great shows I’ve seen, books I’ve read and novel I’ve written!
